8 Steps to Start Your Meditation Practice

In a world that never stops, learning to pause is an act of self-care. Meditation is a powerful practice to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and restore mental clarity. You don’t need prior experience—just willingness. With just 5 minutes a day, you can begin to shift your relationship with your mind. Here's a simple 8-step guide to help you start meditating and turn it into a sustainable habit.

1. Find a comfortable and quiet space: Choose a calm place where you feel at peace and can be with yourself without interruptions.

2. Make sure you're in a good posture: Sit with your spine upright and your body relaxed. Comfort and alignment help support your practice.

3. Start with deep breaths: Inhale through your nose, exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat this a few times to begin connecting with your body.

4. Relax with patience: Don’t force anything. Soften your muscles little by little and allow your mind to slowly unwind as well.

5. Focus on your breath: Bring your attention to the natural rhythm of your breathing. You can count mentally to help stay focused.

6. Having trouble concentrating? It’s normal: The mind gets distracted—and that’s okay! The practice is in noticing and gently bringing yourself back.

7. Redirect your attention to the present: Return to the here and now as many times as needed. Use your breath and your senses as anchors, without judgment.
